Day 1
It’s not about treating the condition, it is about treating the individual. This was today’s thought. In considering this statement, we must think that a person is the sum of all of their parts, and therefore we cannot single out any particular division to repair but rather address the being as a whole and support that whole in the recovery. This too is how we approach curative medicines. Nature has an unidentified and incomprehensible intelligence – we must respect the synergy that lies deep within plants and each of their individual constituents. Nature is variable though precise in its timing and interactions – forces combine and align to produce perfection and it is our duty to recognize this and apply it to our means of treating patients. Nature is a tool and we must learn to use it properly.
I feel that the above include many reminders and how to’s but so often are we neglectful and take for granted the simple gifts that we have at our finger tips. I am thankful to be here, in the raw and experience healing properties in their crude form. All lands, as different as they are ranging from damp rolling hills to the arid desert are nurturing – all provides what those that reside require to survive and they in turn do the same; perfect symbiosis. I love the lands that I am currently in but it serves as a means to spark appreciation of the lands that I am from. The desert, too, has its story and I can’t believe that I am saying it but, I kinda miss it a little.
Day 1 – night time
The fun about being a medical student is having the ability to practice skills on one another and address minor ailments within our classmates. Beyond incredible homemade food yet again, great wine and conversation, this was our nighttime activity. It is a part of being a student that feels rewarding – being able to utilize our knowledge and put it into productive action. I sure am tremendously thankful to be surrounded by such amazing, brilliant minds that collectively have the ability to cure any ailment that I may come under. So bring it on poison ivy, sun burn, migraine or brown recluse bite (well, maybe not that one), I’m ready ;)
PS: shout out to Avon Skin so Soft – the BEST bug repellant ever. None have touched me thus far, knock on something.

  5. I love this picture of your Lauren! This was your first entry I read and I have to say that you belong on this naturopathic journey and there is a reason you ended up where you are. Yay! The only sick person, well not person, here right now is Tux. He's fricking insane but that's probably a whole other 10 years of schooling.. Maybe you can try some things on him when you get back hehe!
